The Japanese House- Concert Review

By Stephanie Dunn

Heavily influenced by her father, Amber Bain started composing her own music at the age of eleven. The Japanese House has continued on a steady trajectory with spikes here and there that continue to push her into the spotlight. A coveted spot on a Taylor Swift curated playlist and her song “Dionne” featuring Justin Vernon are notable catalysts.

Amber Bain’s sound is a dazy and smooth version of indie-pop that will leave you almost in a post-dream-like state. Her lyrics guide you through breakups, heartbreak, her pup, and all the real-life moments. You will find yourself drifting off into spaces in your mind as time seems to stand still in a crowded room.

The Depot SLC was packed with fans eager to hear her latest album, “In the End it Always Does” live. The album cover and merch feature a symbolic hand-drawn circle with an arrow to illustrate the cyclical nature of life - how we sometimes have to feel one thing in order to feel another. A theme throughout the album, it presents in pretty harmonies and in the drums as well live.

Hits like “Saw You in a Dream”, “Boyhood”, “Sunshine Baby” went down with sways, hugs and exchanges in the crowd as they illustrated the connection to her music and sense of real-life lyricized
