Shakey Graves- Concert Review

By Stephanie Dunn

Effortless, humble and authentic, Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) projects his unique style of storytelling through his music to a crowded Union Event Center.. He enters the stage in a custom utility jumpsuit sporting his name and the crowd is captivated from that moment onwards.

The tour amplifies his latest album, “Movie of the Week”  that derives from a place of sheer analog dreaming, art and creativity. The album was originally created to be the soundtrack for an upcoming film, but  the director ultimately changed the path for the film soundtrack. Inspired by the creative process he was immersed in, Alejandro decided to push through and see what he could continue to experiment with and let his curiosity run to take the album in a different direction.

“I enjoyed the space and the process of building music specifically for visual moments.”

Shakey Graves said in a recent interview with That Station - 95.7

The stage was a spotlight to raw lyrics and emotions that resonate through his signature finger picking acoustic guitar style and the beat of a custom foot pedal kick drum that demands your attention. Shakey Graves guides your ears through a flow of crescendos, soft moments, raspy cries, haunting moments and intentional pauses of perfect imperfection. The audience could curate their own VHS visual while simultaneously having a unique concert experience.

There is an electricity in the air and a sense of connection between the audience and the Austin born and raised artist every time he performs. The mix between solo and full band songs was seamless. Definitely a concert experience to immerse yourself in.

So, I say ready or not

Yeah, here comes the funeral

You wear the black and I'll pick the plot

It's all so unusual

Saying we'll all be alright

And you know it ain't true

It's always a matter of time

What else can you do?

“Ready or Not” lyrics with Sierra Ferrel
