Beach House- Concert Review
Dream-Pop legends, Beach House kicked off their North-American tour for their newest record, Once-twice Melody in Pittsburgh, at Stage AE last night. This sold-out show had fans wrapped around the block waiting, eagerly to get through the doors to listen to this incredible duo.
Fans poured in and were greeted by the opener, Colloboh. The Nigerian-born producer whose debut EP “Entity Relation” releases this September, played soundscapes with his modular synthesizer that transferred the crowd to a different dimension. Frantically unplugging and replugging wires into his synthesizer, Colloboh’s experimental music warmed the crowd up for the headliners, Beach House.
Victoria Legrand on the organ/vocals, Alex Scally on guitar, and James Barone on drums, 3 took to the stage for the first time in 3 years at 9 PM. Roars and screaming of joy flooded the venue as the band opened their set with the song “Once Twice Melody” from their newest record that shares the same name. From that point on, Beach House gave the crowd an outstanding performance. New and old tracks were played, such as “Superstar” and “Take care” from their collection, as well as a shadowed psychedelic light show that paired with the entire set.
The band left the stage, just to run back in moments later to play an encore, debuting for the first time on stage, “Over and Over”. Legrand left the stage hugging both of her bandmates and applauding the crowd with gratitude while walking backstage.
Although, that wasn’t their last song of the night. The crowd cheered “One more song!” Endlessly to make it a point, no one was leaving without hearing another track. Full of surprise, Lagrand, Scally, and Barone took to the stage again playing not one, but two songs for their second encore of that night. The 3 left the stage, for good this time with Legrand holding a bouquet of roses she received from a fan in the front row. Once Twice Melody is an incredible self-produced album by itself, but being one of the people hearing Beach house debut this record for the first time live, in concert is otherworldly and definitely and memorable experience.
